One of the most memorable moments in Hacksaw Ridge occurs when young Desmond Doss, after a violent fight with his brother, strikes him with a brick. Fearing that he may have seriously injured him, he looks up in horror at a framed copy of the Ten Commandments hanging on the living room wall. His eyes fix on the words, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 5:17). That image becomes deeply engraved in his heart and shapes the course of his entire life.

Later in the film, as Desmond faces unimaginable circumstances, that same Word continues to guide his decisions. This scene beautifully illustrates the command found in Deuteronomy 6:6–9, where God instructs His people to keep His Word in their hearts, teach it diligently to their children, and write it on the doorposts of their houses and on their gates. The purpose was never merely to decorate a home, but to provide a constant reminder of God's will.
